Barely three weeks ago I laid before the hallowed chambers the Appropriation Bill 2020 for consideration by our distinguished members in the State House of Assembly. It took great commitment and sacrifice on part of our legislatures to critically go through all the proposals and make necessary adjustments before passing it for accent. I appreciate this remarkable partnership and pray for the continues amicable working relationship between the two arms to ensure good governance.
This event marked the beginning of hope and change as it is the spirit of the 2020 budget. It is christened the budget of RECOVERY and STABILIZATION aimed at revamping the economy through rebuilding the infrastructure, providing quality education and health services, creating jobs for the jobless, and ensuring security of lives and properties for our people.
We cannot achieve the laudable objectives set out for the budget unless there is financial discipline, probity and accountability in the implementation of the budget. We must be meticulous in prioritization of projects and show prudence in the management of the resources. No expenditure outside the budget can be entertained. We have put in place mechanism for budget monitoring and evaluation and ensure periodic reports on budget performances to guide in the overall implementation.
Let me once again thank our distinguished members, the officials of the budget office and all those who helped in one way or another to ensure today’s outcome. We appreciate all the efforts and looking forward for a collective approach in the proper implementation of the budget.
